Letizia’s Personal Healing Journey

Hi there – Altha Founder Letizia here! I am here to tell you the details about my personal healing journey and how I got to where I am today. Being vulnerable about your personal journey is not always easy but opening up about your own struggles allows you to help others heal. In my experience healers tend to be people who have experienced a lot of darkness and growth throughout their lives, which is why they can better assist others in their healing journey – and I am no exception.

Beginning at an early age, I was conditioned to always be worried about living up to society’s standards. This included always being strong and hyper-independent while at the same time being a people-pleaser. Over time I learned that in order to achieve this I had to refuse to listen to my body and just work, work, and work some more. I was in one of the most stressful jobs (high-end event planning) in the very demanding and largely male-dominated luxury automotive industry and was constantly trying to meet unrealistic expectations.

Eventually I learned that if we do not listen to our bodies, they start to talk to us until we do. I got to a point when my body was begging for rest and recovery, but I would often numb these symptoms in order to be “strong”.

In 2013 the accumulated stress combined with a breakup prompted the development of an autoimmune disease, and the push I needed to start my journey towards healing and living a more balanced life. I introduced meditation, tapping, sound healing, and yoga into my life as well as let go of toxic friends and social circles that were no longer serving me – all of which were huge step forward.

I then slowly introduced lots of bio-hacking tools such as cryotherapy, infrared sauna, and red light therapy into my routine, but even though my job as an event planner nurtured my creative side, it was still exhausting me with long hours of work, many flights, lots of complex problem solving, and an overall toxic work environment.

In time I got to a point where my body decided to take over and forced me to put a hard stop to my stress-filled life. I was honestly not sure that I was going to make it; after two desperate 40-day long periods that were extremely depleting I was experiencing constant dizziness, vertigo, panic attacks, and intense chest pain.

Although at the time I felt that my body was letting me down, I now realize that it showed me the way to genuinely live a life that I love. That experience taught me to go with the flow, to rest, to say no to plans, to take life one day at a time, to ask for support from my community, to be okay with not always being productive, to step into my feminine energy, and to set realistic expectations for myself and others.

I learned that true wisdom comes from learning from yourself and figuring out who you are. It is vital to learn what it is that you want, what drives you, what you do and do not accept, how speak up, how to set healthy boundaries, and how to do only what feels good to us. I learned that every time we say yes to something that we don’t want to do, we let ourselves down. We also must remember that our body speaks to us – we just need to learn its language. The biggest lesson I learned was that to maintain a happy life it is fundamental to curate a balanced connection between the body, mind, and soul. As a young girl in school, I learned the phrase “Mens Sana in Corpore Sano” which means “a sound mind in a sound body” – and in my early thirties I finally started to incorporate it.

My Healing Tools

Below are the tools that over the last decade have been helped me immensely throughout all levels of my healing journey:

Daily

A Concrete Morning Routine that Includes:

  • A Stable Sleep Routine - Oura Ring has been my biggest tool in improving my sleep

  • A Glass of water with a spoon of Baking Soda - to alkaline my body

  • Gratitude Practice - writing down what I am grateful for (remember: even though you do not have to be thankful for every experience, you can still be grateful for it!)

  • Using a Powerplate (or shaking & jumping)

  • Puppy Cuddles - I always make time to snuggle up with my dog Zen!

  • Morning Sun - I soak in the sun for 30 minutes each morning for some vitamin D

  • A Walk - Luckily Zen helps out with this, but I take a morning walk with him each morning for fresh air.

  • Meditation (for 20 minutes)

  • Red Light Therapy (I do this during my daily meditation)

  • Breathwork (for 30 minutes)

  • Qigong (for 30 minutes)

  • Sound Healing (for 10 minutes)

    As well as mindful living:

  • 2-3 liters of Water

  • Healthy Diet (I eat mostly vegan with some animal protein. I use the 80/20 method where 80% of my food is nutrient-dense and 20% is the food I just simply love!)

  • Mindful eating (and chewing!)

  • Healy Device for Frequency Therapy

  • Time in Nature (I am very fortunate to live near a beach so I go as often as I can)

    Weekly

  • Infrared Sauna Therapy (I recommend the blanket from Higher Dose so you can use it at home)

  • Using an Acupressure Mat

  • Epsom salt baths

  • Gentle Exercise (such a yoga and pilates – when the mind/body is too stressed, it is pointless to do heavy workouts and push ourselves too hard. I used to hire personal trainers and do 6 high intensity classes a week, and all it did was put my body into “fight or flight” mode)

    Monthly

  • Acupuncture

  • Cryotherapy/Cold Therapy

  • Alphabiotics

    As needed

  • Tapping/EFT Therapy (Emotional Freedom Techniques)

  • Hypno-Therapy

  • Vacations in Nature

My“NO” List:

  • Coffee

  • Sugar

  • Gluten

  • Alcohol

  • Tobacco, Weed or any Recreational Drugs

  • Antibiotics

  • Toxic People

    Additional Tips

  • Change your products to all-natural options (this includes everything from cleaning supplies, to beauty products, to candles)

  • Purify all areas of your life by removing both physical toxins and toxic people

  • Speak your truth when something doesn’t resonate with you anymore

  • Meditate daily

  • Making cleansing yourself and your home (with sage, palo santo, copal etc.) a daily ritual – and double it up if you are going into crowded spaces)

Healing is an ongoing part of life, and we are always students who are learning new things as we grow and evolve. It is important to remember to look at ourselves with curiosity and without judgement. We must also remember to continuously check in with ourselves; is this person/place/situation aligned with me? Does it bring me joy? If the answer is no, then let it pass you and do not engage. Most importantly, we need to learn to love ourselves unconditionally, realize that we are whole and enough on our own, and do for ourselves what we would normally always do for others.
