What to Expect at a Sound Bath

Introduction

Have you ever heard of a sound bath? If the answer is no, let me explain. Sound baths are relaxing sessions where people lay down in silence and listen to soothing live music and feel the vibrations. They can be extremely beneficial if you have trouble sleeping or just want to unwind after a long day at work. In this blog post, we'll go over what exactly a sound bath is, what you need to bring with you when attending one, how it makes you feel afterward—and even how much transformative they can be!

What is a sound bath?

A sound bath is a fully-immersive and multi-sensorial experience. It is called a “bath” as the sound waves “wash” over you as you relax and unwind. The harmonics lull your mind into a deep meditative state, while the vibrations revitalize your body, making you feel rejuvenated. Sounds are created by instruments like alchemy crystal singing bowls, gongs, drums, rain sticks and chimes. These instruments recreate the sounds and produce vibrations we find in nature and that can be felt through your body. These vibrations help to restore balance within our energy fields -- including physical, mental and emotional levels -- and allow to access our own inner wisdom more easily than normal state of consciousness allows us to do so on our own.

How to prepare for a sound bath?

There’s nothing particularly special you need to do when preparing for a sound bath. It is advisable not to eat anything heavy within an hour prior to arriving and be sure to drink plenty of water beforehand as well! Sound travels about four times faster through water than air, hence being well hydrated will maximize the benefits.

What do you need to bring to a sound bath?

To have the best possible experience, it is advisable to wear comfortable yoga or loungewear. If you have a specific pillow and eye mask that you prefer, bring them along! Because your body temperature will naturally drop during the experience, we always encourage our guests to bring warm socks, and a soft cozy blanket, as well as crystals and essentials oils. You can also bring a journal and pen in order to write down any thoughts that come up during the sound bath experience. This can be an excellent way for you to reflect on your experience after leaving the space and reconnecting with yourself later on in life (or even right then).

What is a sound bath experience looks like?

Upon arrival, the facilitator will cleanse your aura field. Once in a seated position, the certified sound healer will briefly explain what a sound bath is, what instruments will be used, what to expect during the experience, and, after a meditation scent activation and a few breathing exercises, you will be asked to get comfortable and cozy, laying down on a yoga mat. With your eyes closed, you will be listening to the sounds of different instruments: some are alchemy crystal singing bowls, some are gongs, some are drums, some are flutes and bells. The way they sound together is magical and will transport you in a dream-like state.

What happens to your brain during a sound bath?

During a sound bath, or while listening to one using stereo headphones, the brain will go into a theta state, producing audio waves at very low frequencies (a range between 4 – 8 Hz), that is the closest to the Delta waves (these are the ones that produce a deep sleep and a complete lack of body awareness). This state might make you feel drowsy, and in most cases, it will lead participants to dream, taking them into an extremely relaxed state.

What to expect after a sound bath?

A sound bath can be a great way to de-stress after a long day or wind down before bedtime. After a sound bath, many people feel grounded, relaxed and at peace. They report feeling more connected to themselves, their community and nature. Some say they've been touched by spirits or spiritual guides during their experience. While you won’t be hearing the sounds, the vibrations will continue to vibrate the water within you for about 24-48 hours so it is advisable to drink plenty of water, and avoid foods and drinks that dehydrate your body.

Conclusion

The experience of a sound bath can be deeply transformative. It is not just the music and vibrations that provide you with healing benefits; it's also the silence and stillness in which you can reflect on your life, allowing yourself to be present with whatever emotions arise. The combination of all these elements creates an environment that allows us to reconnect with ourselves on a deeper level than usual--and this is something we all need more of in our busy lives!
